The transformative impact of color took center stage at a recent event, where design and cuisine merged to create a multisensory experience.

Event planner Paul Tramonte, the principal designer at Paul Tramonte Events, was tasked with planning a conference for 350 hotel owners and franchisees. This is a well-traveled audience that has seen it all. His goal was to align the reception with the conference theme, “The Future Favors the Bold.” An experience that should activate all the senses.

Inspired by Google Xi’s 2023 experiential conference in New York City, he reached out to designer Lori Weitzner. A featured speaker at Google Xi, Weitzner also curated an exhibit exploring the connection between color, taste, scent, and emotion. Her book "Ode to Color" served as inspiration.

“Color is regarded universally as a visual phenomenon. This, however, overlooks its impact on our moods, energy levels, memories and associations. Its intimate relationship with our other senses. They are all connected,” said Weitzner.

Color was a focus of the menu and overall aesthetic. Her color world activations were also part of the experience.

“My hope was attendees would bring this color knowledge back to their hotels and let it help them elevate the experiences of their guests,” said Tramonte.

Out Loud, Earthly, At Ease, and Garden Party were four of Weitzner’s color worlds featured. Each is expressed through a unique combination of flavors, scents, and visuals.

James Samson of Samson Hospitality designed menus that captured the mood and energy of each world. Spicy tacos in Out Loud and vibrant vegetable dumplings in Garden Party. Each paired with colorful cocktails complementing the flavors.

The sensory-driven concept engaged attendees, reinforcing how color can make an impact. It also highlighted the growing demand for event experiences that go beyond traditional design.

This philosophy is influencing more than events. Google has hired Weitzner to help design amenity spaces. Her color worlds will foster creativity and well-being in its new building in Chicago.
