A Closer Look at 8 Mega-DMCs

Skift Take

A decade of consolidation has resulted in a handful of DMC networks and mega-firms that make up the majority of the industry. Here’s a rundown of eight of the biggest in the business and what they have to offer.

The destination management business took root in the 1960s, when destination management companies (DMCs) known as “ground operators” were founded in major cities, offering services such as airport pickups, transportation, and tours and recreational activities for groups.

Flash forward to 2025 and the merger of 360 Destination Group and CSI DMC into Cohera has created one of the biggest DMCs ever, with 360 employees and projected revenues of $200 million. Though mom-and-pop companies still exist, many are now part of the major global networks below, which have become the go-to for many planners.

1. Cohera

Cohera represents 46 destinations nationwide and became one of the world’s largest DMCs with its merger of two industry leaders in March. The company describes its services as “part creative studio, part strategy firm, part production powerhouse,” flexing beyond logistics and tours to include event marketing services such as immersive storytelling, campaign-based ideation, and brand activations.

2. DMC Network

DMC Network calls itself “the industry's only fully-member-owned community of DMCs,” operating in more than 100 destinations; its web site lists each owner’s personal profile. Each year, it brings a select group of clients and its DMCs together for the DMC Network Exchange; this year’s event was held in June in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It also promotes its industry leadership, with DMC members serving on industry boards and a long list of industry awards.

3. Euromic

Euromic is a non-profit marketing association of member-owned DMCs, founded in 1973. It is invitation-only and accepts just one DMC per destination, does not charge commissions, and is governed by a board of DMC owners. Its numbers vary but hover around 50.

4. Global DMC Alliance

Global DMC Alliance is a network of more than 65 small- to medium-sized DMCs representing more than 450 destinations. It has been operating since 2006, is based in Malta, and differentiates itself as “a young, dynamic association that’s different from the larger, more generic providers.”

5. Global DMC Partners

Global DMC Partners is a global network of DMCs serving 500 destinations, with 100 partners, such as Destination Concepts Inc. (DCi), which has deep roots in Southern California. Its coverage spans the globe, from far-flung destinations such as Mauritius to the European capitals — and some lesser-traveled ones too, like Lapland. President and CEO Catherine Chaulet was a senior executive at Fidelity Investment, giving her a strong understanding of the demands of her corporate clients.

6. Hosts Global

Hosts Global was founded in 1958 and originally known as USA Hosts. This rapidly growing global alliance includes new members across the Caribbean, Europe, LATAM, and APAC, for a total of 450 destinations, as well as the recent addition of Hosts Hawaii.

7. Liberty International Tourism Group

Based in Salzburg, Austria, Liberty International Tourism Group was founded in 1990, and moved to a franchise system in 2020, introducing meeting and incentive industry services in 1991. Today, it claims to be the world's leading privately owned DMC, with 250 members in 100 destinations around the world. It owns and operates 95% of its offices globally; 5% operate as franchises under the Liberty umbrella.

8. Ovation Global DMC

Ovation Global DMC  is a European–based company representing more than 100 destinations, and the DMC arm of MCI Group. It has 60 owned offices across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, and operates a partner network model in destinations where it doesn’t own offices. In operation for more than 30 years, many of its senior team members are visible in leading industry associations, and three have served as president of the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence.
