CWT Meetings & Events Top Exec Departs as AmEx Acquisition Looms

Ian Cummings, global head of meetings and events for CWT Meetings & Events, has stepped down. This comes after a deal in which American Express Global Business Travel is acquiring the company.

Ian Cummings has stepped down from his role as the global head of CWT Meetings & Events to pursue other opportunities. This news comes less than two months after American Express Global Business Travel entered into a definitive agreement to acquire CWT. a global business travel and meetings solution provider. It is reported that American Express is paying $570 million to buy CWT, a global business travel and meetings solution provider.

“All great journeys come to an end at some point in time and the time was right for this journey to end,” says Cummings. “I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved together as a team, the customers we have won, delighted and retained, the events we delivered, the numerous industry awards we achieved across the globe, the partnerships and bonds we formed, and how we collectively put CWT M&E on the map as one of the leading, truly global industry players in all four corners of the world.”.

Cummings joined CWT M&E in 2012. Working his way through regional and global roles, he eventually becoming the global head of meetings and events in September of 2021. This was in the midst of the Covid pandemic. He helped steer the company back to success.

On March 25, it was announced that American Express Global Business Travel Group was acquiring CWT.

“Joining forces with Amex GBT helps accelerate our vision of a tech-enabled future for business travel, where people and technology combine to deliver an exceptional customer experience. We are highly confident in the value creation of the combined company,” said CWT CEO Patrick Andersen in a statement.
