quickly improve your event website authority and increase traffic

The following article shares an often overlooked trick to . This post has been written by Julius Solaris for Event Manager Blog (?).

I am sure you followed my advice and used WordPress to set up your event website. Fair enough, but how do you get it out there?

One of the best ways to drive great quality traffic to your website is to rank higher in a service called Alexa. Allow me to expand…

What is Alexa?

Alexa as from Wikipedia:

[…] is a California-based subsidiary company of Amazon.com that is known for its toolbar and website. Once installed, the toolbar collects data on browsing behavior which is transmitted to the website where it is stored and analyzed and is the basis for the company’s web traffic reporting.

Why Should You Bother?

There has been a lot speculation on the accuracy of the service. Some say that since the data analysed comes only from Alexa’s toolbar, it may not represent a reliable ranking service.

However, when looking at Google Page Rank as an alternative, it is easy to note how other discrepancies kick in, such as the random updating of data as well as their historic nature.

Beyond all of the above discussion – which I am happy to leave to commentators – it is a fact that Alexa is used in a lot of services that rank websites. Ranking is a major factor in increasing your reputation on the web.

In short High Ranking = High Authority = More traffic

5 Easy Steps to Increase your Alexa Ranking

Start a blog
Alexa looks at the quality and quantity of your content. You want to keep it fresh and updated. The best way to do that is through a blog. Keeping a relevant blog is not an easy thing, but definitely a winner. Some good examples of blog templates here.

Claim it on Alexa
Head to this section of Alexa’s website and go through the process. It is a fairly easy process if you are confident with basic web hosting skills. If not call your web designer, you don’t want to mess around and break things 🙂

Install the Toolbar
Start using the Alexa Toolbar. Look at the relevant categories that are popular and start writing quality content about those topics. You will immediately see the benefit.

Edit the Description of Your Website
Make sure to keep your website details relevant and updated at all times by reviewing your site description here. This is especially important if you are looking to be ranked for particular topics as you can populate the description with relevant keywords.

Use Widgets
As you can see on the sidebar of this blog, I am asking you to give us heads up on Alexa through a widget. You can get yours here.

In Conclusion

If you set up a great website with an updated, quality blog on your event topic, Alexa will help you to improve your authority on services ranking websites and blogs. This is a fantastic compliment to a careful social media strategy and I strongly suggest you start playing with it.
