NYC’s Pier 57 Transformation Includes James Beard Event Space

  • Skift Take
Platform by JBF is a new state-of-the-art show kitchen and event space on New York City’s Pier 57, an industrial site completely reimagined to the delight of meeting planners.

Now completely reimagined, New York City’s Pier 57, once a wooden shipping and storage terminal built in 1907, is now home to state-of-the-art Google offices, a rooftop park, a food hall, and Platform by JBF, a new show kitchen and event space.

The pier’s 16,000-square-foot Market 57 food hall houses more than a dozen kiosks. Among the food options are a mix of minority- and women-owned businesses. However, Market 57 is more than a food hall. It’s a burgeoning incubator for emerging chefs and culinary entrepreneurs that showcase the diversity of New York City. With support from Google and Jamestown, this new gathering space offers spectacular views of the Hudson River.

In an open letter to the people of New York, Ellen West, site lead at Google NYC, said the 500,000-square-foot public space and market is a “physical manifestation of how Google is part of New York City.”

    Fresh NYC Venue Option

“We’re thrilled about the addition of Platform by JBF at Pier 57’s Market Hall to New York City’s vast event space portfolio,” said Jerry Cito, executive vice president of convention development at New York City Tourism + Conventions. “This newly renovated mixed-space pier on Manhattan’s West Side is a prime location to host events in NYC, with its abundance of offerings on-site, as well as nearby arts, culture, and dining options, and access to accommodations and public transportation. The addition of Platform by JFB will undoubtedly be a draw for business event professionals as they book future events in NYC.”

Platform is the first time the James Beard Foundation has expanded its real estate portfolio. It is headquartered at the historic James Beard House a popular spot for exclusive, special events in the West Village.

    Visit Baltimore Has the Platform

Seven of Baltimore’s top Black chefs took over Platform for a Visit Baltimore dinner. A six-course meal that showcased the city’s culinary creativity and storytelling impressed at every turn. Guests tried dishes like coconut poached rockfish, corn gnocchi, a crab hand pie, pickled collard green pasta, and a pineapple upside-down bread pudding.

Al Hutchinson, president and CEO of Visit Baltimore, and his team hosted the event. Hutchinson said Baltimore is often overlooked for its culinary prowess, something Visit Baltimore is determined to change.

Platform is not the only special event space on the pier. City Winery New York is also on site. It features a winery, restaurant, bar, patio, and tasting room spaces that host private events. The 15,000 square feet of event space can accommodate groups from 20 to 1,000 guests two floors.
