EventMB Gears Up for Next Phase of Growth Under New Leadership Team

Skift Take

We at Skift are bringing in new leadership for building the next phase of EventMB, intensely focused on the deciphering and defining the future of events that emerges in incoming months and years from the collision of virtual and face-to-face.

The year 2020 was defined by monumental digital disruption for the events sector and coming into 2021, the changes are accelerating.

We acquired EventMB, the essential media intelligence resource for event professionals and organizers, in the fall of 2019 with an intent to go deeper into our coverage for the meetings and events industry and scale up the business as part of Skift.

When the pandemic hit and the events industry was shut, EventMB quickly pivoted to covering the birth of an entirely new virtual events industry, through stories on the site AND through its hugely popular monthly virtual events, all of which made sure EventMB actually had a blockbuster year — it exceeded pre-Covid revenue targets by 50 percent! — when the events sector, the overall travel industry, and Skift itself had big drops in revenues. All thanks to the foresight and leadership of the founding team of Julius and Carmen and the rest of EventMB team, ably supported by the larger Skift team.

As this period of accelerated change continues, the founders are now transitioning on to other ventures. We at Skift are bringing in new leadership for building the next phase of EventMB, intensely focused on the deciphering and defining the future of events that emerges in incoming months and years from the collision of virtual and face-to-face.

Miguel Neves

First up, Miguel Neves is coming on board as EventMB’s new Editor-in-Chief. His experience at IMEX, Synaxis, and other organizations through to becoming an expert at digital event tech and strategy has made him a known thought leader in the space, and a sought-after speaker. He lives and breathes event tech sector and is deeply engaged in the global online community event professionals.

As he describes himself, he is a “curious creator and caring curator of computerized content and a conscious connector of charismatic characters.” As EIC of EventMB, he is uniquely poised to help connect and empower the events professionals, along with expert day-to-day support from Deputy Editor Dylan Monorchio, and we’re excited that he is the new face of EventMB starting today. He is a Portuguese soul who built a career in the UK and is now raising a young family in rural Denmark.

Angie Kimmel

On the business side, we are bringing on Angie Kimmel to lead our global sales and business development efforts in this new hybrid world, as EventMB’s new Director of Sales.

Angie has been connecting her travel industry customers with meeting and event planners for over 20 years, at organizations such as Northstar Travel and MPI, and has consistently been the top revenue and business development executive wherever she has worked.

Often referred to as the “life of the party,” this die-hard social butterfly makes fast friends with everyone she meets, as she describes herself. Wife and a mother of two, she resides in St. Louis, her hometown, where she loves cheering on her beloved Cardinals.

Whatever the coming Napsterized future of events industry is, expect EventMB to be leading the conversation with the new leadership team. Onwards!
